What is all involved in installing a different center section in a 9 inch rear end. Is it a matter of pulling the axles out and removing it and putting in the other one?
The reason i ask is that I have an oppurtumity to buy a 9" center section with 3.70 gears and a mini spool for $200 (canadian). How should I inspect it and if it appears good should I buy it for this price?
Drain the lube. Unbolt the wheels, pull the drums to get at the flange bolts, pull the flange bolts, slide the axles out. Drop the driveshaft at the rear u-joint, unbolt and pull the carrier. Re-assemble in reverse order. After you've done it a few times, you can easily make the swap in 30-40 minutes. Less with a helper to do the other side.
Summit even sells a pan that you can bolt the spare carrier onto to keep it clean, drive to the track, jackit up swap carriers, race, swap carriers back and drive home.
$200 CAN is what, about $160 US? Jump on that deal or make sure one of your frends does.
