So there is this Excursion close to where one of my friends house and has been parked for about 2 or 3 months I think. Well finally today I was like it hasn't moved so let me inquire about the mirrors and see if they would trade or sell to me as they are towing and mine are paddles. So I walk in to the business it was parked behind and the guy says it's a 7.3 and he would just like to sell it outright. I said I just wanted mirrors but just for kick what's wrong. He says the trans is completely bad and won't move. He said he bought from the original owner and was going to lift it etc. after the trans was fixed for a toy. Well obviously that didn't happen so he gave me the key and told me to check t out. It's dirty as hell and needs the following from my 2 minute look over. Front seats, tires, shocks, brakes, and other cosmetic stuff inside. It's rough. So I went back inside and asked him how much he said throw me a price I was like no so he told me $4500 obo. I would like the project but know these can run up a bill fast. It has 297k on the odometer. I ha e attached some pics. So what is a fair price for something like this. He said he would go lower but idk how much. I was thinking like $2000 to be worth the risk and headache haha.
Yeah no rust that I can see. It's been here in VA it's whole life so not too bad at all. I doubt he'll take $2000 but I'll try next time I ride by. Then again the longer it sits the less it's worth to him or anyone for that matter.
Supposedly all the pieces are there and it was complete when he parked it there, which leads me to my next question. What were they hunting for when they started pulling off panels haha?
For $2k I'd buy it, a used trans isn't too expensive I don't think. All the other stuff looks salvageable. The door panels/dirty interior/bent bumper aren't huge issues.
I'd guess in running condition with almost 300K miles it would be worth $6-9K depending on rust.
A Ford rebuild in my area is around $2,000 and labor is $500. There's a guy who rebuilds them also for under $2,000 with labor and everything locally. A Ford dealership or tranny shop would guess $3-3,500.
$4,500 X as is
$3,500 max for tranny
$8,000 too much
Plus all the other stuff it needs your looking at another grand or two now your pushing $10,000.
$3K max IMO.
There was a 00 X Limited 4x4 diesel with 240K miles in WI that was list at $4K. Truck ran well with lots of new parts just started tough when cold. This truck more than likely needed way less and was cheaper and if plugged in would start fine.
I'd say $3000-3500 and just clean it up and flip it for 6k if you discovered you didn't want to keep it!
(Check the airbox lid/intake tract for signs of 'dusting' beforehand). Good luck!
Did you start it? The most expensive part will be the engine..since you know the transmission is bad. I think even if you go with a Ford HD you are still looking at around 3.5K for that...thats a minimum to get it on the road. Add a bad engine and you are now adding up some money.
