I bought the truck with the 650, so I do not have much of a baseline to compare with, but I like the carb and the truck has plenty of power and runs well. 10-12 mpg is possible. Might be a wee bit big, but I am overall pretty pleased with it.
Wish I had an OD, but there's almost nothing out there for an FE block, and a Gear Vendors OD is $3000. If you have a 351/400, I think a ZF5 will bolt right on up. The gear spacing will be better, plus the OD and will really wake your truck up. That is, if you want to go manual. I think an OD auto could work too though.
get this, notch the ZF5 tail end of trans for 205 to bolt up, measure correct driveshaft length, may need to get old ones rebuilt to fit, may not. May have some trickery to bolt onto cross member. Its a swap I may pursue
As for the horn, mine doesn't work. Being a MASHOLE native I just use the lucky finger or highbeams or left/middle pedal to get the point across.
