Don't pull it and check it, replace it with a new MC stat.

New one on the shelf, which I'll go back with, just want to know if that's it "before" I hook up.

IMO if you can't get it to 16psi you don't have an issue

I would like to think this is the case, but I know this truck pretty well so I know when something isn't the same. Ever since I bulletproof it, temperatures were as predictable as clockwork and no matter how hard I loaded it, no puking coolant. Now for the past year every so often the temperatures will run anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees above the normal. In the last 3 years, it hasn't puked out coolant once. Now every so often I see evidence that it has. I changed the thermostat first part of August last year, and no difference. Changed out the fan clutch because it wasn't spooling up right, and problem went away for a few weeks. Then it started up again, but this time I had a split in the "Y" pipe. Fixed that problem went away again. Few weeks later, it's back and now I'm seeing more puking coolant. It almost acts like it's the thermostat not opening, an obstruction in the cooling system, or possibly a water pump slipping sometimes.

Problem found??????

Finally warm enough to work outside. Pulled the thermostat. It is a MC. Plopped it in a pan and heated it up. The first time, worked perfect. Started to open about 195-198 (I don't have a digital) and appeared to be fully open by 212-215. I was about to give up, but decided to test it again. Let it cool to 175 then cranked the heat up again fast. This time it was around 205-206 before it started to open, and over 215 to fully open. Repeat test are pretty much the same. It doesn't start to open until it's well over 200.

New thermostat in. Test drive on the hills temperature climbs to 195 then drops back. fluctuating between 190 and 195. Pressure in the system climbed to about 12 lbs. Relieved the pressure and now it's holding about 8 lbs. Only way to tell for sure at this point is to get under a load, and I don't have that opportunity right now. Think I'll still change the degas cap.
