Wont Idle
My parents have a 97 Expedition 5.4 Eddie Bauer automatic. Theres 250xxx on it. Every now and again, when you start it up, it'll fire, then the rpms drop and it dies. It will hold a steady rpm if you give it gas though, and after driving it for 10 minutes or so, it will idle fine. The exhaust smells really rich, and it will backfire every now and then. The ECU isnt putting out any codes either. When you drive it, you have to two-foot it, until it steadies out, and the transmission shifts at different points it feels like. I posted about this a few months or longer ago, but haven't been able to do anything about it until now. Any ideas?

Shouldn't that throw a code though? Before, both banks were a little lean, and it threw codes for that.. So for starters, how hard is it to take the egr valve apart/out and clean it, to see if that would work

Depends on if the EGR tube comes off easy or not. If the tube comes off fairly easy then the rest is a breeze.

Now I would think THAT would throw a code.
How about the IAC. Unplug the IAC and if the idle gets even worse, then the IAC was working. If no change, then the IAC isn't doing anything.
