300RWHP QUEST

So as you all know I just finished my 90 f150 HO motor build but I'm looking for more out of my motor. What HCI combo is the quickest way to get me to 300RWHP? I was thinking E303 cam with Edelbrock performer heads, roller rockers and mass air/ injector upgrade. Can I get away with using the stock intake manifold or will it pose to much of a restriction?

300 RWHP is going to require at least 30 lb. injectors and that is beyond what the factory Speed Density system can handle even with a custom tune from 302 cubic inches.

Do not even think of using that awful alphabet Ford Racing cam. Completely wrong application if you want any lowend torque.

A MAF conversion is likely in your future. Unless you go totally aftermarket like a FAST system.

Personally I would look into AFR or Canfield heads. Everyone has their favorite brand. Eddie's are near the bottom of my list but are light years ahead of factory heads.

Stock intake is probably going be your weak spot. Others may disagree.

300 flywheel HP is much easier on the wallet.

yeah mass air definitely! But some of the aftermarket EFI systems are extremely tempting, especially as they come down in price. I've always heard pretty good things about ford racing heads? I say 300RWHP is the point of where "fun" starts.

You could make 300whp with factory speed density but it'll require a 351 stroker.

If you have the cash for the efi kits, they really are as easy as it gets and you can make changes basically on the fly. They're speed density also, so you won't need to source mass air.

A supercharger is another way to go, and you can source the old technology that used to be common back in the 90s in order to make it work with factory software.

The heads, camshaft, intake, and supporting fuel system/ tuning will be where you need to focus, provided the bottom end is healthy.

Trickflow or AFR are my choices for cylinder heads. I have used both, and had similar results. AFR are a little more expensive, but in my experience they are about the best out of the box. The difference between TF TW and AFR is negligible at the 300 RWHP level.

Ford letter cams are antiquated. A good off the shelf roller cam is going to cost you 300-325. For another 10% you can have a cam made specifically for your combo; that is the best way to go.

300RWHP is doable with a Trick Flow top end kit. Sell off the stage 1 cam that it comes with and have a reputable grinder make you a custom grind.

I think the stock intake is definitely going to be an issue. Maybe less so with an Explorer or Cobra, but the Trick Flow kit is not that expensive for what you are looking to do.

Can I ask why you are shooting for a certain power number? HP is just a number/ bragging rights. If you're shooting for a certain performance goal, that's probably a better metric to use as a bench mark.

I've been doing some research and Holley's terminator EFI looks like a really slick set up. I think a edelbrock RPM air gap dual plane and some decent heads and cam with holley efi would make some good power numbers.
