hard shifting
Car is 1987 Mustang GT with T5 that has the lower (3.29?) first gear. Has 173k miles of mostly easy commuting, so no racing or hard shifting. The stock automatic clutch cable adjuster was replaced with an aluminum bell crank and a threaded rod at the fork end very early on, so engaging and releasing is very precise. For the last 5 years or so, I've been running Mobil 1 ATF in it. Before that, I had been running Kris Kaufman's Slick Shift, which seemed to work really well, but decided to change it after 20 years just because of the age.
Recently it started to be more difficult to shift into first or second gear. Usually shifting into first is when stopped, and shifting into second occurs after initial acceleration from first. When it refuses to go into first, I try rowing through some of the other gears. Actually, sticky 2nd shift has been occurring on and off for a long time, just seems to be getting worse now.
So could the 1/2 synchronizer be wearing out, and in need of replacement?
