Help needed with timing pointer 302

Hi I have a 302 in my 1949 f1
The engine doesn't have a timing pointer
I need one so I can time it up
I need some help sorting out which one it is and also someone who is able to sort one and ship to England
Done a bit of resea ch and there seem s to be three different pointers
My water pump outlet is to the right as I look at front of engine
So I have figured out I need either the 11 or 10 o clock one
I'm going to make a piston stop tool tomorrow to see where abouts tdc sits and I'm gonna cl an up the crank pulley so I can figure out which one I need ( hopefully)
Is there an easier way to establish which pointer is needed on my engine
And has anyone got one or either that they are willing to post to uk
Many thanks
James

Not an authority, perhaps more knowledgeable member can provide comments?

I have same issue on the 65 with the 390. I used the 'finger in the hole' method in getting in the ball park of TDC. Remove #1 plug, place finger in the opening and immediate stop when compression forces finger out of the opening. I then check the position of the rotor to the spark plug wire, and their relation to the timing mark. This should put me in the ball park where I can then use a vacuum gauge for fine tuning. If the rotor and spark plug location are not aligned I can make adjustments by rotating the timing gear, Once aligned I can adjust the idle mixture, or rotate distributor where the engine is running its best, between 18-22 hg of vacuum; keeping in mind if I make an adjustment in the idle mixture I then have to recheck the timing, and vice versa.

Located a pointer but made the mistake of using the incorrect taping screw; meantime, now faced with another issue; meantime, intend using the vacuum gauge.
