OK, I have a built for canadian truck and have the DRL already installed. My problem is that sometimes I want to turn them off during the day, like when I enter a military base and the guards don't want to be "blinded". The other time to have them off is when I get on a ferry. The attendants get pissed that I apparently cannot read the "turn off your headlights" sign.
Anyone know of a way to disable the DRL's w/o installing a switch at the resistor and running the wiring all the way tot he cab dash? There has to be an easier way?
You can turn off the ignition, depress your parking brake one click, start your truck and drive on. One click is probably not enough to engage the brake linings, but it is enough to turn on the PARKING BRAKE light in the dash.
In factory DRL installations, the relay should have a tap for the dashboard parking-lamp indicator. If the lamp is lit when turning the key out of "off", the DRLs stay dark.
If the parking-brake trick works on your truck, you could wire up a switched 12v line to the relay tap, and you could just flick the switch before starting your truck.
I read somewhere that Canada vehicles "must" have DRL by law. I guess I'm a little late to add my two cents but this link may add a little bit more info for future projects...
