Do these 2013 F-150s still have vacuum actuated hubs for the front drive system? Or has Ford finally gone to a more reliable permanently connected system like Ram? I had a nightmare on my hands with my '99 Ranger but by the time I bought another in '03 they had done away with the vacuum system. Somebody told me the F-150 still uses vacuum to actuate the hubs. Is that true?
There are too many pieces in the system to get all the bugs worked out but for the most part the system is pretty good. The biggest issues people were having was the vacuum solenoid ingesting water and shorting out, Ford moved the solenoid from the firewall(04-08)towards the front of the engine(09+).
MY old '05 has close to 100k on it and there has never been any issues with the 4wd. I have actually never know anyone who has had trouble with theirs.
The IWE vacuum solenoid is mounted near the brake booster on my 2013 F150. I saw where there was TSB for the earlier models that showed the addition of a cover to divert water from the solenoid at its position under the hood.
