Hi Guys,
I'm a newbie here and looking at buying a barnfind V8 pickup that looks like a half tonner. It is being advertised as a 59SC which doesn't seem to figure in any sites I have found so far. Any ideas? Other question is whether engine spares are still available for these beasts? Thanks for looking.
Maybe it is 699C. The stamp on the frame is difficult to see usually. These engines and parts are available. You may have to rebuild the engine. Could you post a pic?
Nice! Looks as though it's been stored indoors for a long time. I have seen way worse trucks roar back to life. A total frame off restoration IS a huge project, but for a fun 'run around' you might get by with a tune up and a good brake job. It would be really great if you could keep us in the loop as this progresses. A video of it seeing daylight for the first time is always fun to see. That's the only good part of the Wayne Carrini car hunting show. You should start it up in that garage and drive it out. Wayne has to have them professionally towed and then dropped off at his mechanics so they can get them running. I love seeing a truck like yours in this stored state. Best of luck.
Wayne, do you travel to France? It would be great to take this Ford back to Roger and have him change the fluids etc. But when he does start it up, it will be fun to watch the nuts and bedding blow out of the exhaust pipe.
The truck was in an auction and thanks to your excellent forum I knew I could count on getting spares and advice and upped my max bid. However it went for double that so sadly I won't be driving it. For your interest I found the inside of the door pockets to be painted olive green so I'm certain it was ex military. Amazingly for a 1945 vehicle it had absolutely no rust anywhere and someone got a good vehicle for the money (20,000 €) Surprisingly this older Ford truck went for just 3,300€. Have fun and perhaps I'll be back if I find another!
Seems like the bigger a truck is, the less they are worth. You can barely give away a low mile, unrusted original fire truck. It appears that our older ford trucks have some interest in Europe. I have seen the last two '42-'47 one ton panel trucks that were for sale go to the Netherlands and Great Britain.
