Hello all. Picked up my first Excursion two weeks ago. 2000 Limited 6.8L 2wd with 132K on it. I have been searching for a little bit, needed something I could fit several road or mountain bikes in the cargo area and didn't want to go pickup truck with a cap route. If you drive around long enough with a few thousand $$ in bicycles on the roof of your car [I]something[I] bad is bound to happen.
Tires were completely gone on it so it already has new 285/75 16 BFG AT2's. When that didn't fix the shimmy it had I put it up on jack stands and found the ball joints to be pretty worn, so that's happening next weekend along with tie rod ends. Many thanks to the awesome write ups on this forum, should make the job as easy as it can be. 05 style grill and headlights off eBay are already on the way. Future plans include new style tow mirrors, 4:30 gears (has 3:73's) a Mike's 5 star 91 Octane Tune and Banks headers when more than one stud breaks off (only 1 broken right now). 12MPG out of the first tank, mostly city driving. Thankfully this isn't a daily driver, just for when we go mountain biking or go road cycling at events out of town. Look forward to my ex and the knowledge here on the FTE.
Nice looking wagon you have there, I've always liked that blue/tan combo and I love the V-10 motor!
No problem packing bikes up in the EX, here are seven mountain bikes along for the ride.

Congratulations on the Ex! What branch of the service are you in?
Another Ex owner who likes mountain biking and lives in my neck of Texas! I'm sure you already know this but in case you don't OP Schnabel and McAllister parks have some nice trails. Good work out! Pic of my GT Sensor 1.0 just washed I just put a set of Kenda small block 8's on it. Not very aggressive but smooth and fast! I think mountain bikes are going to hijack this thread
BigGreenEx I am civilian working at Fort Sam Houston, TX, can't mistake those big AIT dorms for anything but what they are can you? My fiancee is active duty Air Force.
TexPig I've been to both but frequent Mcallister more often. The trails at OP Schnabel just don't flow very well for me, although they are a blast.
I'm going to use the Thule mounts that bolt anywhere and anchor them to the cargo bay floor in a front/back alternating pattern with intentions of fitting 5 road or MTN bikes comfortably. I haven't laid it out yet though.
Since we are running rapidly away from Excursions here are some of my two wheeled toys. 2011 Trek Superbly Elite FS, 2014 Trek Emonda SLR 8 and 2015 Trek Superfly Single Speed Full Rigid (my favorite bike hands down).
