With a 3 day weekend ahead of me and with the weather too hot for my other 06 SD body work, I decided to replace the cooler seals with Cat brand o rings. Since I work at a Cat shop, maybe cheaper? At $4 an o ring and the price of the full kit from Felpro a $8 with the block gaskets it was a no-brainer. I was shocked at how cheap it was. Autovalue shows in the Felpro kit 2 gaskets and 6 o rings. 6 o rings? There's only 4 on the cooler. Kit was ordered last night Red and will be in at 8 am today. Time to go to work!
Both Felpro ES72519 Cooler seal kit and the Ford 6K649 seals come in a package of 4 even though you only need two on the very end. Smaller diameter o ring goes on the outside and the larger 6C610 seal is installed on the inside of the cooler. Kind of a waste of materials if u ask me.
It has been said that the only ones that work for the long term are the Ford part or RiffRaff seals. I'd spend the extra money so it doesn't have to be done again.
The Felpro ES72519 seal kit is available from any major auto parts store. Ford doesn't make a seal kit for the older OBS 7.3l engines anymore. Only tier 3 engines and up have a kit (from what the ford parts guy told me) That's why I mentioned that you have to buy 4 seals instead of 2. They come in a bag of 4. None negotiationable.
