Drive Shaft

Hello all, while trying to diagnose a shaking/wobble i have between 48-52 mph i was looking at my drive shaft. I have what appears to be an aftermarket/custom single piece driveshaft (maybe 5 inches in diameter). I thought these super duties came with a two piece and a carrier bearing? I am the second owner so i am not sure what it had originally. It is the 2012 super crew with the short bed.

My 11 is one piece. I believe the short boxes are one piece and long boxes are 2 piece but I could be wrong.

My 2016 crew cab shortbed is a one piece. My previous 2005 crew cab longbed and 2002 crew cab shortbed were two piece.

Guys, it depends on a lot of factors...2wd or 4wd, long or short bed, Crew Cab etc.

My 2012 6.2L 3.73 4x4 CC 6.5 bed is a single piece.

So what mods have been installed? If a suspension lift has been installed, there is a new driveshaft that's supposed to be installed. And of course the angle of the pumpkin might need to be adjusted, too.

thanks for all the input. it has a 4.5 coil/block lift in front and 6 inch lifted leaf in the rear. It was doing this shaking/vibration before the lift however. In another thread many people kept pointing to the tires and it is still looking like they are the culprit. I am working with the installer to get 4 new ones. Here's hoping. I definitely have a larger diameter custom/aftermarket 1 piece drive shaft. I crawled under my buddies 2013 diesel and his is a single piece but is slightly smaller in diameter. My front suspension is all good. I will update as soon as we get the new tires (hopefully)

Does it do this while you accelerating through the speed you mentioned or while cruising normally? Could be something to do with a U joint.

It does not do it while i am accelerating through. I settle in and with 1-2 seconds it starts it every time. I feel it slightly at higher speeds on the highway but manageable. The 48-52 is the worst and almost jarring. Even when decel down from 65-70 as soon as it hits 50 it starts doing it and then quickly out of it as i get lower in speeds.

Short beds are usually 1 piece. Is the lift a kit or something you put together? High speed or low speed vibration? How are the driveshaft angles? Lot of variables here that will cause vibration.

that may be true if you have 4wd.

I put the new rims/tires then i noticed it. The new tires were rubbing so i lifted the truck thinking new shocks might help and it still did it. The only reason i questioned the drive shaft because it is clearly not stock. But it happened before and after the lift on the new tires.

No lift commercially made lift kits for 4x2s, no issues there. You need to figure is it a high speed (drive line) or low speed (wheel) vibration. Try jacking the rear up and running through the gears. Try it again with the rear wheels off, remember to snug a few lugs to keep the rotors from wobbling. If its indeed drive shaft you need to check the angles and get the shaft rebalanced.
