Stanadyne

Using Stanadyne Diesel Performance Formula in my 2004 F-350 DRW Super Duty since Day One. Now contemplating its use in my 2016 F-350 DRW Super Duty (Lariat Ultimate). Can I continue to use it? Ford wants me to buy "their stuff". Stanadyne's web site no help.

Any reason for using the performance formula as opposed to lubricity?

I use the Stanadyne blue and red. The red is a summer formula and blue is year round. Once the red is gone, will use the blue only.

I use it for multiple reasons, no special order in the listing below:

1) demulsify the water so the fuel filters can trap it
2) lubricity
3) cetane boost.

I want to try to increase all of the above due to the low cetane in many states and the fact that ULSD has an affinity to absorb water.

Obviously not all products are created equal, and since I work at a Ford dealership, I can walk down the hall and buy Motorcraft products I tend to do that. But so long as it covers all the same stuff then if you can find another product for less I don't see the problem. Here is the chemical list from the MSDS for Motorcraft Cetane Booster:
Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated 64742-47-8 light 60 - < 70%
TRIMETHYLBENZENE 1 - < 3%
2-Ethylhexan 1 - < 3%
NAPHTHALENE 1 - < 3%
Solvent naphtha (petroleum), heavy arom. 1 - < 3%
TRIMETHYLBENZENE 1 - < 3%

I'm not a chemist so it doesn't mean much to me, but perhaps it'll help you make the comparison.

you can use anything that is clear on purpose and not multi functional......

there are octane boosters....claims to increase combustion and as a result lower emissions...increase power.

there are anti gel agents for the winter time....in NYC...Jan/Feb would be the months for this one

there are water removers that converts the water to petrolum gelly snf gets cuaght by fuel filters......up until they clog.

there are "lube agents" which claim to provide lube value...but...its not in the context we are used to...the lube value is not the type you get from running a two cycle mix...its based on the combustion process creating what I would compare to very fine baby powerder and this powder becomes the wear surface and provides some friction releif.....all these product fail the ball wear test...these products work a lot like leaded gas used to and leaded gas replacements do.

so you can use any product for any category.....becareful with multi function products because its hard to determine the % value included in the mix....and boosting your octane too high could cuase a lot of heat issues.

a new product by lucas claims to just clean the DPF and ford has a simular product.

becuase of the very small amounts involved with the octane boosters...1/2 an once per tank ful, I tend to stay away from them under the assumption that other products that are multi funtion have that already.

proceed with caution.
