E4OD Shifter Linkage
What is the difference between what I have and this - Picture003-1.jpg Photo by big-dave20 | Photobucket
where the bracket points down instead of up. Is that for a 2WD? Is this in any way compatible with what I have?
That linkage would need to be switched out and can be done with not a lot of trouble.
If you drop the pan and remove the filter, you can see the linkage is held into place with a 13/16" nut on the back and a roll pin in the middle. I have seen posts where people talk about a special tool or drilling it out. You shouldn't need to do that. On 2 transmissions I removed the pin with a small pair of pliers. The pin isn't stuck in the hole with a lot of force and once you get it to move out even 1/16" then it is very easy to grab and pull out.
The linkage can only be installed one way. I would suggest to install the linkage and then roll pin first. Then put the bracket on the linkage and begin to thread the 13/16" nut back on, but not all the way until you get things lined up again. For the first timer, it will probably take 20 min or so to install the new linkage.
