Oil dipstick question
The stick has the number 1825154C2 stamped on it. Prowling around the webs, I've found that is apparently a Navistar part number. I haven't had any luck finding any place that lists a dipstick for sale with that particular number.
I've found a couple of references that suggest the corresponding Ford part number is F81Z6750DA. I can find lots of places selling that, indicating that it's the correct dipstick for a 99-03 7.3.
So I ordered one, and I got one with a sticker indicating it's a "Ford Genuine Part", with the number F81Z6750DA. The number stamped on the stick is 1825154C3 (not C2). The stick is a little shorter, narrower, and the marked operating range is not the same distance from the base of the handle. Is this the right stick for my truck?
So, I went through the same thing you are going through but for a different reason.
From my notes:
The new replacement part is very different and a cheap piece of crap in comparison to the original. The oil level from the full mark to the hilt is slightly different between the original and the new replacement. However, on the new one, it is only off by about an eighth of an inch (1/8th") to the full side which would be approximately 1/4 of a quart of being over filled. Got it from FORD...
From the tip/end of the stick, there is an inch and a half (1.5") or (1 1/2") to the low oil mark and 2.5" to the full mark. These measurements also coincide with the 36" mark and the 35" mark on a tape measure when measuring from the point at which the metal shaft enters the hollow plastic handle. This new stick has 1825154C3 stamped on it.
So, I simply keep the oil level 1/8th of an inch below full.
I went to all of this trouble with the comparison because oil level is critical/crucial in these engines. In hind sight, I don't think this level of detail was necessary.
Hope this helps.
