Looking for guidance. My Explorer XLT has 80k miles and I was driving across country when the engine failed. I was traveling 82 mph on I-10 when the engine light came on, then the battery light, and then the oil light. The engine stalled and we were subsequently towed to the Ford dealership in Kerrville.
They advised they could not determine the exact cause without taking the engine apart, but that basically the radiator emptied into the crank case, freezing up the engine. Car was in great shape (other than the now blown engine).
Before I give up on the car, anyone hear of this before. It seems odd to me that a well maintained engine should not have such a sudden catastrophic failure that cannot be explained. I have found no recalls but did see a note on one site that indicated there was a notice to dealerships that some engines, manufactured as certain plants, had major issues on the 2010.
