Hi all. Wondering if anyone could answer a few questions. I have a 1994 f350 stake bed, with a 5.8. The wiring under dash was messed up because some Neanderthal messed it up when adding trailer brakes. I decided to change the under dash harness . The only one I could get my hands on was a 1993 f150 with a 5.0. After comparing them they appear identical except my 1993 harness is missing four wires out of the main plug that goes into firewall. Is it possible to depin these out of my bad 1994 harness and add the wires
To my 1993 one that has empty spots? Where do I get the tools to repin the round female connectors, if it can be done. Any help appreciated . Thanks .
The best tool you can get would be an EVTM for your truck. That's Electrical and Vacuum Trouble shooting Manual for those who hate acronyms.
I think you are on the right track by isolating and adding the missing circuits from your old harness. Manipulating the connectors can be done with picks and thin screwdrivers. In general, the Ford electrical plugs have a red insert that locks the pins into place. Pry out the insert and you can usually reach the locking tang with a thin flat screwdriver and release the connector.
Note that the trailer brake controller plug is different on the 1993 than the 1994. The 1993 is four pins and the 1994 is six pins. So you might want swap plugs also as the 1994 stile plug is more common to find the matching pigtail for.
I am also re-doing my under-dash wiring. I removed the dash in order to paint it with plastic paint and now I'm putting it back together. I have found four or five connectors, some looking pretty serious, that don't seem to have any place to go. I have searched my wiring diagrams (I have the original shop manual wiring diagrams) and can't find any of the connectors and/or wire colors for them. It's like they were added to totally confuse me and it's been successful. Please help.
