what are your recommendations for oil/filters/ deletes/programs for towing and plowing? ive been looking through the forum posts but couldn't find a dedicated maintenance thread for beginners. not looking to destroy records with it, just to help it live as long as possible throughout its use. story is as follows:
my uncle recently came into owning an 05 6.0 superduty. he asked me to get the basic stuff figured out as he aint much for working on vehicle. he wants to put a plow on it and use it for a 2-4 horse trailer. just got it started last night after sitting for 5 years. some idiot had the oil filter in upside down and nobody could get it started so we got it cheap. also its going to need a ficm, possibly injectors.
At the top of the 6.0 forum page, 3rd thread down is the Tech Folder. Lots of good info there.
First you will want some way to monitor your engines vitals, like ScanGauge II, or Torque Pro app, so you have a base line for how it's running. Lots of threads on how to set them up.
Stick with Motorcraft (OEM) for your filters. If it doesn't currently have a motorcraft oil filter then it probably also does not have the OEM filter cap. Again, more threads on here about that.
You'll being hearing from more members soon with other recommendations. Lots of knowledgeable
people on here. Ed at FICM.com is the go to guy for ficms and has a lot of other stuff and good prices too.

Thanks for the recommendation, KL. We're actually at ficmrepair.com, but we appreciate the thought regardless!
thanks for the quick responses guys. looking to get this truck running well soon. i know that the ficm works for now but occasionally hits 32v which i know is bad. ive got a $3000 scan tool from matco(im a technician) that helped me diag the no start to begin with. started off with no oil pressure and 85% and not even .01 on the scanner pressure pid. after turning the filter upside down and priming it up i finally got it to start. only thing is that the percent reading was at or near 14.77% no matter what.koeo and koer pressures were around 200-300psi above desired at most of the rpm range. so now ive gotta figure out whats next after the ficm
