Does anyone know if anyone makes a fairly-reasonably priced 15x5 or 5.5" rim for the 5.5" bolt circle? 15x7 seems to be the norm.
My 64 doesn't have power steering (converting it is way down the project to-do list), so I'd like to run as tall and narrow a tire as I reasonably can with the idea being to get it as easy to steer as possible (with maybe one or two drag race benefits ). I don't want to go quite as far as using true drag-race "front runners" tho - been-there done-that; on something as light as a Mustang they were scary enough, I can image what they would be like on something as heavy as a truck!
I had to go to a few different junk yards to compile my 5 rim set of 5.5 and 6 inch rims in the 5 on 5.5 for my F-100. Finding new 15x6 rims in that bolt pattern at tire stores was very tough.
Right now I am running 31s, what I plan on doing is getting a wider 9 inch rear axle and putting 34x9.50x15 on 15x8 rims with 3.5 backspacing. Like you, power steering is probably the last thing I add when I put a bigger axle on the front (Dana 60 or 9 inch).

The tire stores around here that I've checked into have Centerline's and the like in that size, but they want big dollars for them - they may be an option down the road, but I'm on a tight budget to get things together on the cheap until I finish school (sucks to be my age and have to say that, but there ya go!). I'd like to find something under $80 a corner (NOT in the realm of Centerlines! )... I can find steelies around here all day long in the $40-$50 range new, but 15X7 is the skinniest I've found so far.
I really just need two of the narrow ones for the front, but a full set of 4 wider ones to match - I run 3.89 gears with 31"s in the back for everyday driving to keep the RPMs reasonable, but I've got a set of 27" meats for those times when I want to go play...
I've thought about doing the original factory wheels with Moonies myself Rebocardo, but It's not my first choice. Neither of my trucks came with the factory wheels; My 63 had aluminum adapters with Pontiac Bonneville wheels on it no less , and the 64 had 15x8 American Racing steelies. I'm running a set of late-80's F150 rims on it now. I'd have to do the Junkyard hunt myself to find an original set.
Well, 15 by 6 is VERY skinny...you might not find those because light trucks don't come with a size that skinny anymore. Can try any online store look in a catalog you'll find tons of suppliers, tyres.com is one or tirerack.com is another. Why would you want to buy cheap rims now and good rims later? Sounds like a real waste of money to me.
I figure whatever I get now will be on there for two years anyway before I can get school/power steering/other stuff done... If I keep them in good shape I'll be able to get half what I pay back out of them; I won't be out that much for two years use. I know people that change wheels and tires more often than that on a whim anyway...
Discount Tire doesn't have anything less than a 15x7. Tire Rack won't let you search their rims unless you tell them a vehicle first, but then their engine only goes back to a 67, and it still tells you they don't have your vehicle listed once you pick it.
Tyres.com does have a couple of 6" listed, although shipping 6 wheels from Australia to Dallas might be a bit steep! It does give me a starting point for models to look for around here though... Thanks!
I was looking at the American Racing Rally's on Tyre's site - they listed them in 15x6 - when I went out to American's site the only ones that wide have 5x4" and 5x4.75" lug circles... no 5x5.5" I'll look around some more at Tyre's.
Weld makes a 15x4" in the right bolt circle, but I don't want to go THAT narrow! On a truck that's been slammed it would probably be a neat look, but scary to drive around town... I'm not planning on lowering mine more than a couple of inches, and I drive it to work one or two days a week. they are kinda pricey anyway...
