Well I ordered it on Wednesday, and received it today. I took about an hour to install, and assemble. I could tell right off the bat, there is quicker throttle response, and it also makes my flowmaster sound way better. I love the sound of the air being sucked in.
There is a lot of debate about K&N air filters. There have been
reports about K&N air filters not filtering as well as the OEM
paper filters, and there is a possibility of contaminating the MAF
with oil from the K&N.
Personally, I feel better using the OEM paper air filters.
The oil is what stops the dust. No oil = no filtration. Well, not really NO filtration, but anything smaller than pea gravel will get through. If you don't want oil, stick with paper filters.
I have run K&N FIPKs in several vehicles for the last 12 years or so, carbureted and EFI. My experience with them is I dont run anything else. But i also keep my vehicles at least 10 years. Not worth it if you arent keeping it.
As far as oiling: i definitely oil them. You just spray the oil on the filter until it changes color. I have never had any trouble with these filters. I agree with the poster: if you arent planning to oil the filter- i would just stick with OEM.
I also like the sound of these filters, the appearance under the hood, and i like being able to see the filter to see if it needs service every time i open the hood. As for the OEM filters- out of sight, out of mind. Take care- J.D., KCK
For $250 bucks it better do a lot more than just sound cool and add throttle response. Ya' know, if you add K&N and exhaust, you are looking at over $500 and what do you get...maybe 5-10 HP?? Do you know what kinds of engine upgrades $500 will buy? I want to upgrade my new truck, but I don't think I'm going to go the "airflow" route...not enough bang for the buck.
well, i think you are correct that spending $500.00 for air intake and exhaust is too much. But did you try www.ebay.com ?? They have some pretty cool open element intakes there, and you dont have to spend $250.00 to get them either! (some may not be K&N- also shop around- i know that is the common price- but you can find them cheaper) As for $250.00 for exhaust- that is a lot too- but i admit pretty much the going rate. Also try ebay on that one. They are cheaper some places! J.D., KCK
The short answer is, buy one from the big makers such as Gibson, Flowmaster (louder then a Gibson) or Borla (more expensive then either, but stainless) and made for your year, make and model, and the answer is "NO" J.D., KCK

You can buy the Gibson in stainless also. I've been very happy with my Gibson.
