Exercised the Beast!!!!!

Hey everyone,

Bought this new truck a month ago, finally had a chance to tow with it today.

The trailer: 31ft Toy Hauler, 12,500lb, bumper pull.

The test: There is a hill in my town that is just over a mile long, has a stoplight at the bottom of it, and is likely a 10% grade or more(I live in CA, I know what a 10% grade looks like). The test is as follows. Stop at the bottom of the hill. Floor it on green. See what speed you top the hill at.

The old truck: Topped the hill at just under 50mph, that was the limit of the truck from a stop.

The new truck: Topped the hill at 75mph and still pulling hard!

WOW! I love this truck. Tested the exhaust brake too, it worked awesome as well. I cannot express how thrilled I am with the performance of this truck! I can drive it with ease, whereas the old truck was a challenge, always having to watch EGT's when climbing any hill.

It's a smile every time you tow. Get used to it...

I can get used to this I still miss the noise and smell of the 7.3, but after today's towing demo, I am not missing the 7.3 nearly as much...

Pile on the weight and it will still run circles around the underpowered 7.3.

towing with cruise control on at 65 mph is the way I roll unless I am going downhill, then I may shift into manual if enough incline.

You have the exhaust brake so I don't think you would need to do that.

Just like you, happy with the power, but needed air bags to lift the sagging rear.

Ha! Your thread title was so close to one I posted earlier this month, I thought it came back to the top because someone posted a new reply. Here is my thread:
Congratulations on the new truck! I had the same excitement the first time I hooked up the 6.7 to my camping trailer, and that was just to the weigh station and back. I will finally get to have some real fun towing up some grades tomorrow, since we're headed to the coast for New Year's weekend.

It's truly is amazing how well these trucks pull. I can hardly tell my trailer is hooked up to it. I also can't believe how much the ride has improved; I often find myself going WAY over the speed limit without even realizing it.

You didn't really EXERCISE that truck - you merely "tickled" it!

Enjoy all that torque!
