Cant Pass Emission Test - o2 Sensor not ready
Hoping someone has been through this and can help me.
I have a 2013 F150 CC max tow with the 3.5L Ecoboost. Truck just passed 40,000 miles on the odometer.
I took it in about a month back to get the Tx state inspection completed for my license renewal.
Truck failed the inspection due to o2 sensors "not ready". Dealer says drive it and come back. I have done that 3 additional times now, putting over 800 miles on it since the initial inspection. Put 500 miles on it the first time, and about 150 each subsequent time Still no luck.
Tech says it is not throwing any codes. Everything looks normal.
The engine has always run rough when initially started after sitting for several hours. I have to blip the throttle to rev it up and clear whatever to get it to idle without bucking and shaking. After blipping the throttle, it runs smooth as silk. Dealer has no answer for that either. That's just become part of my driving experience every day.
I was hoping whatever issue was causing the o2 sensor problem would clear up the rough idle on startup. Maybe the two are related, maybe not I guess.
Anyone been through this with the o2 sensors?
Thanks in advance!
Tim

if there is no code there how do they know it's not ready ? if the o2 reads not ready it's usually a power fault to the o2.
if no engine code/light take it to another inspection place as I have seen many stupid inspection places have trouble with their communication system back to the State and they blame the customer when it's really their system. Also, your truck should still be under warranty for the emissions components - the o2 sensors included.
who's your dealer they sound like they don't know how to fix a truck.

Ford has to fix it. it is still under warranty. The emissions controls and anything that pertains to emissions is Fords responsibility. If it doesn't pass, that's on Ford. I believe the emissions warranty is 80,000 miles. (Look in your owners manual) and don't take any crap about it has no codes, because if the O2 sensor isn't ready, then that tells me that the readiness codes are not ready. and that's a code.
