Been a ford truck buff all my life and never ran into this. 1972 ford truck stalls when I accelerate on the gas petal. 2nd rebuilt carb on it. Could this be the vacuum advance? Can anyone help me out on this ? Thanks...
Had a similar problem on my 72 360 just last week. Thought it was the carb. I had just recently rebuilt carb, new points, condenser, cap, and button. Was running great. Went out to drive it and I couldn't keep it running over an idle. Rev it up and it would spit and sputter and backfire. Finally narrowed it down to the condenser that i had just replace not a month ago. Cheap part to try. Just my .02
Thanks Southern, I carry a few with my 1971 F250 4x4 as this has happened to me. They just don't make stuff like they used too. I will keep you all posted as I move along with it Thanks all.. fish...

Condensers have been the number one culprit of all running problems lately. I tell everybody to get a pertronix kit.

If you don't go Pertronix go to your local Ford dealer. Ford V8 (single point dizzy) condensers are part number C9AZ12300A (DC-13A). Still available.
On his other thread he mentioned Holley 4V. And after installing it is when the problem started. I asked quite a few questions about it on that thread Bobby.
Thanks for the part # I will hit ford dealer tomorrow and get the pts also. I am believing more and more the carb is under jetted on my 1971 4x4 with the holly 4bbl... fish...
Worked on the 1972 today, fires right up when cold, sounds great until the idle comes down (hot air choke on it)then is either dies , like shutting the key off or rough idle until it quits. Air fuel screws are approx. 1 3/4 turns out. Can keep it running long enough when warm to even check the timing. This one is really driving me nutts. Any one have any ideas? thanks again for the help guys... (This has a 2 bbl carb on it)

Yep. Change the condenser. There was someone else on here a while back with the same symptoms. Must be a certain engine/dizzy/condenser temp that made his and yours go wacky. This is only one of the symptoms. As Garret said, condensers have been the #1 culprit as of the past couple of years. Whether it be new, used, or new in a replacement Dizzy.
