EGR replacement

I have to replace my EGR valve and have gotten price quotes ranging from $55.00 up to $108.00. Other than the warranty, is there a difference? Are the higher $$ EGRs better or just more expensive?

Are you talking parts only or labor too? $55 isn't outrageous for the part, but $108 is.
I worked for Carquest for years, and we only sold one brand. We didn't have a "second" line of EGR valves. If it was me, I'd stick to a good brand like Standard or another USA made EGR. Just make sure the OEM number interchanges with the new one, and that there's a new gasket in the box.

IMHO, a lot of EGR's aren't "bad", they just get stuck and need to be cleaned.

EGR replacement

I did try to clean the EGR. It was stuck because the truck had been sitting for about three years. I did have it moving freely but I guess it wasn't good enough. I was still getting a bad code for it.
The prices I got were for the part only. Those prices were the high and low but most were about $80.00.
If anyone knows of a way to clean them please let me know.
Thanks.

EGR replacement

Last time I cleaned one I used a vacuum pump and carb cleaner, but Ford says not to use chemicals. They say to use a "sharp edged" tool to clean (scrape) the orifice and pintle area, and blow it clean with compressed air so the chunks don't plug up the EGR again.
I guess if you are going to replace it anyway, you can try to hose it out with solvent or whatever, and if it works, great. If it doesn't, you're not any worse off than when you started.
I'd suggest a vacuum pump to hold the pintle open so you can clean it.
