Looks like its time for a new motor

So they want $1500 for the engine with the machine work done, but that doesn't include pistons, bearings, gaskets, etc? A Ford master rebuild kit for the engine is about $1100 with all that stuff. $1500, plus $1100 is $2600. If you're happy with the pricing on the parts, I'd say let them assemble it for the extra $900.

Thanks for the offer but I'm in Oklahoma City or I would take you up on it.

I could be interested in a motor. It looks like you are too new to PM.

Do not. I repeat, DO NOT purchase a Ford Remanufactured long block! They do not have a good reputation. Many people have had problems with them. They can be a nightmare.
I would very strongly suggest you rebuild your engine if possible. Like said before, you already have 7 good holes. Don't invite the opportunity for even more problems than you already have.

I've not had good luck with gasser crate engines. If I were in the position of having to replace my diesel, I'd take it to a local builder I've been using and deal with the down time. The amount of work involved to have a poorly working crate motor is astonishing when you factor the shipping back and forth etc. The only way I'd go Ford is if the dealer installed it and you could work with them, but if there's an issue, prepare for hell.

We'll after much thought and going back and forth I have decided to go with building the motor myself. I looked at the motor the machine shop has, it's a 2000 model, bored 20 over, and he is going to rebuild the heads and put in the cam bearings and I'll take it from there. Going this way I'll have some money left for some goodies, t500 hpop, new turbo and bellowed up pipes. It's going to take a little more time but I hope I have a better motor in the end. Plus I'll still have my motor and some spare parts that I can sell and recoup a little money. If any of you have built your own and have tips tricks or words wisdom or caution let me know. I plan on starting next weekend. Riffraff and I'll will become good friends, lol.
