How hard is it to fix the obs up-pipes. I'm trying to gauge how long it will take me. I've done the super duty and they aren't bad. I don't know If the obs are harder or not. also do I have to pull the turbo to do it.
I have to replace the doughnuts, bellowed up-pipes are not in the budget right now.
No removal of the turbo is necessary. The driver side is tricky, but its doable, as for a "repair" take them to your local muffler shop and have them expand them so that the new doughnuts fit nice and snuggly(make sure you take the new doughnuts with you)good luck

There are MUCH more affordable bellowed options out there. You are wasting your time redoing the doughnuts. Lots of work to leak again if not immediately.
Pm me for options
I hear the tight budget. I am doing a body swap and running out of funds i might end up only doing doughnuts. What is the reason for hole new pipe if all look to be good
The old gaskets wear into the pipes in a way that no matter what they won't seal back up. The bellowd option seals at the collector instead, creating a much more reliable seal.
Its a tedious job but can be done. Biggest thing is take your time and don't rush.
If by "body swap" you mean you're swapping cabs, you'd be wasting a great opportunity if you didn't replace the up-pipes while you have the cab off. And with the cab off, I don't imagine you'd need to remove the turbo.
The 02 I did sealed up and is still sealed now, I thing adding chips and turning up the hp is hard on the doughnuts.
I like the Idea of taking them to the exhaust shop and having the pipes expanded to fit the doughnuts. The first set of seals lasted ten years the next set should last until the pipes rot out.
With that being said when this truck gets a turbo upgrade it will also get a set of the riff raff up-pipes

The stock pipes are stainless. They don't rot.
Bumping the pipe up won't work. The pipe wears at the donuts. Farther up the doughnut won't erroded the pipe. The pipe fits the collector fairly tight. If you bump it up the pipe won't fit at the top.
The donuts wear the outside surface of the up pipes as the push/pull inside the donuts as the pipes heat/cool and expand and contract.
Using a pipe cutter, or band saw, cut the last 2" off (Or more if there is room?) and spin the cut end piece around and weld it back. Grind the outside surface if necessary. Use a mini belt sander in the inside if necessary.
Seems like an inexpensive way to get a factory fresh surface.
Ive had my up pipes expanded and havent had a leak in the 70k + miles ive put on them and they were scared badly but once stretched they seemed to loose that scared look. But take your donuts so the muffler shop can see how much they need expansion
I'm going to have to stick a magnet to my pipes then. as rust as they are I just thought they were steel. if they are stainless it must be a low grade of it
