i do believe i have come across the funniest thing i have ever read. I was researching through the archives and came across some guys talking about what rpm a 460 makes power, onre fella related that his truck made power below 4,000 and that it had never been over 4,000, but he goes on to say if you feel like surprizing one of those maxwellhouse coffee canned riceboys at a stoplight it would do just fine, you may not beat them, but they can say that they've seen the elephant dance. Now i've never referred to my 97 crewcab as an elephant, more like wholy mamoth, but i also don't think there is a greater thrill than watching there bowl shaped heads snap sideways to see a crewcab pickup still beside them, beads of sweat tend to break out as they put there feet through the floor boards.
I did have an experience not long ago that i will cherish forever, I was in provo, UT going to the mall with my family and stopped at a stop light, a new and really shiny corvette convertable pulled along side of us, it was purple with a black top, the driver had head phones on and was bouncing his head around.(probably to some chevy love sound) When the light changed i put my foot in it, the greastest thing happpened about a 500 feet down the road when he broke his neck looking at this huge boat truck that was still right beside him. Its a real shame when a 50,000 dollar sports car has to be down shifted to pull away from a crewcab truck, long live ford power, the best really don't rest. any of you big truck drivers have any funny story's please write in, i work with some dedicated chevy lovers and some ricerocket drivers, would really love to share some real life with them, thanks.

The funniest part of the story is you seem to be convinced you could have smoked the vette with your truck!!!! You should have asked him to run you for money, that way he would have known you wanted to race..... They are not the fastest cars out there but @ 13.20 in the quarter in stock form for the automatics, I don't think your truck would be a true match, not even for a S/C Lightning!!!!

now i hope you realize that my intent was not race this fella or in even in the farthest reaches of my imagination, "beat him" let's get real, a two seater sports car and a 9,000 lb boat, the whole point of the story which seems to have struck a nerve, was to stay beside him long enough to watch him shove the shifter where the good lord split him trying to prove to me just how fast that amazing corvette really was, a little advice for ya- if your corvette, which i'm sure cost a pretty penny, can only run 13.2 in the quarter, i would not be bragging about it on a ford chat site, there's places for that kind humor on a chevy website i'm sure. But if you need a good examble to bring home the point i'll be happy to tell ya, an 89 taurus sho runs the quarter in 15.2 seconds, that means your two seater sports car that probably cost as much as three taurus's, is only 2 seconds quicker than a 4 door sedan complete with front wheel drive and a place for the car seat and groceries in the trunk. I'm also sure it would not that hard to get grannies crown vic to run faster than that vette you seem to be so proud of.
Really sorry about getting ya all rilled up, i could send some pepsid for that heart burn.

Yey, Taurus SHO!!!

I have one. I love it and it's pretty fast alright. It will beat a
1999 Pontiac Trans-Am WS6 in a short drag race as long as the guy has his traction control on!!!

The funnier part of the Corvette is that you spend so much on them and Mustangs can come with the options to do it for less. My friend owns a 4.6 Mustang that has a few mods, I drove it to race this schmuck with a 2001 Corvette, this guy swore up and down that he would smoke me. SO, me being myself I had him put $100 were his mouth was. The lights here in Germany are like staging lights(ya know red yellow then green) I smoked him at the light and was a car length ahead at the 1/4 mile. So I took the money, but the important part was A I shut him up and B I showed him that a GT Stang with minor mods can smoke a vette. C Oh yeah I had more money too. Hell a Saleen Mustang beats a Viper by 1/10 of a sec in the 1/4 for like 30,000 less. No vette comes close....think so read some mags, never seen those numbers under the vette's name!

I think we have brought out a point that needs a little more discussion. Ford has always and will continue to have the best lineup of vehicles any manufacture has ever offered, every vehicle chevy offers there's to or three better fords with more options and better engines, the saying "powered by ford" still holds true to this day and even into the future, good ol' henry probably had no idea the legacy he started.

I have to agree that 13.2 is not that amazing. I have good reason to say this when in the truck magazines you see a Super Duty F350 4X4 diesel running 15 and 16 second times with a computer mod and a bit of propane fed to it.

I read this post and HAD to reply. I have a 2000 C5, on which I've added a $40 K&N Conical filter. I've run a best 12.43 @ 113 in good weather with drag radials....12.57 on street tires. My friend has a SALEEN 281SC, which is supposed to put out 365 HP. I drove both his car and mine at the dragstrip on one HOT August night.....the best the Saleen would do is 13.97....my vette? On that night....13.04.....so you see, I dont' what kind of crack you're smoking, but your information is extremely skewed!!!

BS! Purple with a Black top is not new, hasn't been for a few years. Very rare color, and I doubt you really saw one.

Anybody that tries to compare a Mustang to a Vette or Viper because the Mustang *almost* can accelerate as well is nuts...The Mustang is a much lower class vehicle and can't touch either on the levels of handling or ergonomics.

If you don't believe me, look at your overpriced Type R Mustang that gets smoked by a Vette that costs $14K less.

Face it, Ford wrote the book with the model "T" and will close it.
Mustang is the best seller in it's class why change something that sells.

Mustang is the best seller in the model T's class? Well that does explain a lot.

HAHAHA thats funny. My $7k 1988 STOCK Corvette woops up on new mustangs left and right. 14 years and Ford still can't make a fast production v8???

Hell in 14 years Chevy went from 250 hp to 405. Hell NEW V6 Camaros and Firebirds are faster then 5.0 Mustangs. That HAS TO HURT...

Blue oval sucks just admit it!
They make good trucks, well they used to. 1970's Ford Trucks were the best and still are.

No need to yell about it. Yes, driver skill has something to do with it. Fact still remains there ain't a stock commercially available 'stang that can match the stock vette with equal/same drivers. See no radio, no AC, no backseat, cost more, lose in every category Cobra R vs. Z06 vette.

And as for sales, gee, the cheap mustang outsells the expensive vette, surprise surprise. Just about every Honda model outsells both combined. Absolutely meaningless info.

As for mods, everyone knows full well that you can make a riding mower go faster than any stock car out there for enough $$$, but that don't mean it will out handle, out break, out last, out comfort, out protect, or out style the competition.

And for the tale of the original poster. In case you had not noticed, the truck you drive is several times larger than a vette. Perhaps you are the exception, but would you cruise along side a semi in your beast? Not likely.

Real story. Vette and monster truck at light side by side. Vette driver, minding his own business proceeds at the green at a casual pace and does the 1'st to 4th gear shift. Fool in truck nails gas to stay in ever so annoying wingman position. Vette driver, noticing huge truck playing wingman, drops from fourth to third at 40 mph and gives it half throttle to get away from the menace. Insecure truck driver thinks he's intimidated a vette with his power, when instead it was nothing more than his girth and his being in the way for an upcoming turn. Vette never expends any effort or power in passing truck.

BTW, a 1 second time in the quarter translates to a substantial distance and huge performance difference. Ever wathced the olympics? Athletes will do anything to shave a thousandth of a second from a human powered event. 1 second is a slaughter. Haven't even discussed the capabilities in a road course versus a 1/4 mile.

Get outta your truck and into a real sports car. Unless your so drunk as to have dulled the sense, you would mess your pants with the difference.

Ford Lightning? Ain't it a shame that a Ford truck outperforms the closest thing Ford has to a sports car? And while quite nimble in a 1/4 mile, try taking it to the track! Oh yeah, the performance mods make it nearly useless as a pickup truck with it's reduced payload and towing capacity! It's a truck in body style only.

This entire discussion is as ludicrous as arguing that the world is round and not flat.

Ford trucks, the preffered vehicle of pizza delivery drivers!
