Working with an all-original F100 with a 240 6 cyl and 3 on the tree. Let's say I want to keep my 240 6 cylinder and upgrade the transmission to a more modern standard shift with minimum mods. What are the best options?

Yes, that's an awesome upgrade. Thinking about that for my 69 Bronco. However, if I want to stay manual, what is the least mod requiring manual tranny upgrade? Is the Mazda 5spd a good option?
ZF from an 88-96 F250 with a 300, they had an external slave cylinder that can be removed. You'll need to make a custom pushrod to go from the Z bar to the clutch fork, but it should be fairly straightforward. The M5R2 five speed is stout enough, but has an internal slave requiring a hydraulic clutch setup. I have added a hydraulic clutch on my truck, as the 7.3 does not have a mount for the Z bar, it's fairly easy but is still a mod.
So the Mazda and the T5 will bolt up to the 240 with out adapter, mod required for Hydraulic clutch, floor hole and shorter drive shaft. Top loader behind a 300 six is bolt-in replacement with either a mod for hydraulic clutch or remove external slave and fab up a clutch adaptation. Am I missing anything?
The T5 I believe will put the shifter right in front of the bench seat. There is a GMC version used in the S-15 (Not S-10) that has the shifter location at the front of the tailshaft housing right behind the main case. One would have to swap the tailshaft housing at a minimum onto the Ford version of the T5 as the GMC main case has a different bell pattern at the four ears.
And a T5 is nicely geared for a straight 6's torque curve.
