I believe I may have developed a problem with the ignition cylinder on my '98 Navigator. Yesterday I switched the key to the accessory-only position, counterclockwise all the way, and then I turned the key to start the engine, and the engine would not crank at all. I believe I may have done some inadvertent damage to the cylinder, because I normally don't turn counterclockwise to accessory only. I re-tried to start the engine several times with no luck, but finally after wiggling the key in the cylinder a bit, the engine cranked and started like normal.
Today I tried to start the vehicle again, and same problem, the engine would not crank at all. When turning the key to the on position, all of the lights on the dash turn on normally, and when I turn to the start position, the dash switches/relays click but the engine does not crank. It feels like the key doesn't turn clockwise far enough to allow the engine to crank. Is it time to disassemble the column?
