Let me begin by explaining a bit.. Where I live has been experiencing an enormous amount of vehicle theft. The main veh's stolen are Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks, Tahoes, then Chevy trucks, and everything else.
I 'm really considering adding my own theft protection, which may buy me enough time to grab my M4 , or prevent the theft if I'm not home.
I've considered adding a hidden switch to disrupt the rail fuel pump, but this would render my remote start inoperable.
So, I've decided on interrupting the ability for the truck to get into gear via hidden switch. There are two ways I know of to accomplish this. 1. splice into the brake pedal switch, thereby keeping the shifter locked. 2. splice into the ground wire leading to the transmission, thereby rendering the transmission's ability to shift into gear inoperable. (this is the way I prefer)

Has anyone done this?
Any other cheap alternatives?
Thanks in advance.
Simply removing "the ground" from the transmission won't accomplish your goal...Reverse and manual 1 will still function...as will 4th. The first ones because they're controlled through the manual valve and the last because that's the range that occurs when both shift solenoids are in the "off" state.

There is no way to accomplish this electronically.
I installed the Cyclops anti theft device on mine. It works very well, no "extra switch" to be discovered by a potential thief ETC. Remote activated relay replaces the IDM relay, truck will NOT start unless the relay is set. A potential thief would need to know that the system is installed and have a IDM replacement relay with him. Read inside job.
I like the Cyclops... for you guys that have it,, how close to the truck must you be to activate/ deactivate it? or is it automatic and you have to press the remote each time you wish to start the truck?
