I want to build a quick truck
Should I start with a big block or a small block
Does it still have to pass smog? If so, don't try running a BBF in a F150. The smog ***** are getting better at their job.
No smog needed? Go big block. 514 strokers with the right parts make good hp and torque without stressing the block real hard. Besides, there's nothing like the sound of a 514 turning six grand through headers and 10 series Flowmasters.
If you have unlimited budget, there are those out there that will build 850+ cid mills, capable of twisting stock driveshafts into pretzels on pump gas.
Four things to keep in mind;
1) There's no replacement for displacement
2) Speed costs money - how fast do you want to go?
3) Laughing gas has to be refilled, superchargers don't.
4) A big hp mill needs a 'sturdy' driveline (as in not stock) to contain all of that power. Price your project accordingly.
YMMV.
What's the difference between a bassoon and a trampoline?
You take your shoes off to jump on a trampoline.
A F150 with 408 stroker and built E4OD would be pretty quick. A semi budget build with MAF may fit within your $10k budget assuming you already have a truck.
