K301 confusion

Hi,

The WH I have now has always had goofy issues. I thought that it was pretty much OK, but now it seems to be fouling plugs.

Not all that fast, but it's definitely covering them with black stuff -- some of which seems to be liquid.

Here's the deal. I tried to start it the other day, and it gave a few pops, then no go. I checked this and that and finally pulled the plug -- it had crud all over including covering the ceramic and the electrode. I brought it in and cleaned it up a little doing some scraping and some Qtip stuff. Threads had stuff on them as well -- maybe a third of the way up.

I brought out a new one to be sure, and it fired right up. But, when I pulled it, it already had some black crap on the metal. I out the old one back in, and it started, but it seemd a little off. So, it needs more cleanup.

Doesn't smell like oil, although it usually puts out a little blue smoke on starting. It could be rich, of course, but I do have to choke it to start it whenever it's been sitting more than an hour or so.

Right now it has some sta-bil in the gas ( the correct amount), but I've never had any real issues with that before -- or maybe I just didn't notice.

I did put a kit in the carb last year, but I'm no expert. I followed the carb setup procedure as listed in the manual.

Thinking back, I have replaced the head(and gasket) on this, and it seemed OK. I seem to remember the old one being pretty carboned up.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks,

hj
