How do the knurled/splined caps stay on the wiper pivots?
Ours were stuck in the wiper arms which were not on the truck when we bought it.
In the pic below it looks like the knurled cap is staked on.
Everyone that I have seen has been staked. I suppose that there would be no reason why you couldn't drill and tap it if there wasn't enough material left to hold when re-staked. Else buy a new one or I might try a quick, mig spot weld just enough to hold it. Just make sure that you ground to the shaft and not the pivot body else you may damage the shaft-to-body bearing surface. AX may have some advice on that.
Very common back in the day these were "pinned" exactly like inside door and
window handles.... I remember early 1950's my father had a Anco tin box full
of those all sizes knurled & pins. I do remember Chrysler products 1930's-40's
were pinned. My fix is drill it with 1/8 drill and with a cut off 'whizzer' a piece of
the drill. So don't through busted drills away. ......
