Around here, about half the morons on the road won't turn their lights on during the darker parts of dusk and dawn, nor in poor weather conditions... I'd rather someone "look dumb" than put my family at risk because they're too dumb to turn on their lights when they should be on...

I regularly see folks on the INTERSTATE at NIGHT driving with ONLY the DRL lights on. They ALL have the computerized dashboard so they can plainly see the speedometer and gauges/etc. and have NO idea they don't have their exterior lights on.
The auto lights are too sensitive to shade/bridges and I see cars switching back-n-forth as well. I prefer to put the lights on when I want, at dawn/dusk I prefer parking lights along w/fog lights.
With the 6L diesel, I also prefer to start it and let it run 10-30 seconds before putting the headlights on at night (the glow plugs overload the alternator, no need to add to the problem with more lights on while I'm not going anywhere)
