I have a pretty new carb for my 54 truck that had been sitting for awhile and when I put it on it ran decent but would bog down when I tried to give it gas. I looked down the throat of carb and did not have a stream of gas coming out. I tore carb down and every time you moved it to give it gas the accelerator pump would not move the keeper on top of spring would move down but not the rod. I put a new accelerator pump on but same problem I just the spring under the spring keeper would but not the whole rod or assembly. I tired just pushing it down by and but would move much and squirted a little gas back in the bowl (had top off carb) but nothing out jets in carb. It is original 2 barrel carb 239 ohv engine.. Am I missing something, any help any thoughts would be appreciated.
It sounds like the spray nozzle in the throat of the carb is plugged. If you take it out and try the accel pump, fuel should gush out of the hole where the spray nozzle goes. There is a little tapered weight in the hole, don't blow it all the way across the room!
If it squirts fuel back into the bowl, maybe the little check ball is stuck or missing? It should allow fuel into the pump from the bowl but not allow it back.
