Best way to feed a 460 that wont make me buy stock in a gas company.
I am trying to decide on what type of fuel system to use on my f100 with a 460 in it.
I would love to shell out big bucks and put a fancy FI system on it, but money is an issue. I know that there are some great carbs on the market that aren't hard on the wallet, that will provide decent performance.
I am looking for some advise here, are there any good FI systems out there that won't break the bank, or am I just wishing. I would love to put a big 8 stack on her, but I am afraid I would go to debtors prison for it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had a 75 3/4 ton and tried long tubes and different carbs to help with mileage. Didn't help much, had the stock cam in. Tried a 750 cfm holley, don't remember the number. Seemed a bit too much for it, Went to a 600 cfm economizer they called it. Wasn't too bad. still got 10 to 12. I could pull a house uphill against the wind or downhill with a tailwind. Still 10 to 12. Had a 3.73 rear I think.

Holy smokes 10mpg? I have a 97 460 efi how bout 30 miles to a 1/2 tank. We have
done every thing under the sun test wise and the brakes aint dragging compared to
my dump truck (391 4bbl) with 20,000lbs on the back gets 9mpg I can see that but
a pickup getting 3-4 mph is b.s. And then I have a 85 Lincoln 302 throttle body inj.
I swear I can go a month on $10. I have a 1959 Continental 430 4bbl Holley and
gets a solid 17 miles a gallon = 1958 thru 1960 Lincoln the largest & heaviest car
ever made in USA.......just a sayin

There is not much you can do with a 460 as far as mileage goes, they are a thirsty beast. FI will help but not as much as you might think, I have seen a few engines converted to FI and the improvements were modest at best. Gearing will help but again expect a modest gain and then how long is the payback. For the best bang for the buck installing a different engine is probably best. The money you save not adding FI or changing ratios will pay for a lot of fuel for the 460.

I think your best chance is an E4od trans and a wide band o2 sensor.
-4th is .71 overdrive to get the rpm's down.
-Wideband o2 so you can get the fuel ratio leaned out at cruise without "guessing"
gears would also get the rpms down but then your taking away some of the umph so thats why i'd suggest the E4od

This is why diesel trucks are popular for heavy work. And I understand a 460 is 30% larger CID than a 351W but the huge difference in mpg does not make sense to me.
