Narrower frame is only on a Highboy, in the back half. What is your nearest big city in Texas on the C list and I will fire up my Craigslistness. lol
What is you max road trip distance for the right parts?
If you want to keep the 5 on 5 1/2 wheel pattern, 1/2 ton rear axle you will have to find a front 1/2 ton D44 with the same ratio and that just narrowed your search field big time.
You might have to bit the bullet and find a complete truck to get the running gear you want. Remember parting out a complete upper half is a possibility.
depends on what you consider a city haha. lubbock is the closest town over 100k but Dallas/fort worth is the biggest city to me. i myself am willing to go as far as i need to [but being as i'm only 17 i can only go a long distance if i get my parents talked into going with me which they wont just for truck parts]
i'm willing to use a 3/4 and up frame and use keep the axles on it but i would sure hate to have to get rid of my posi track
Fire up the Texas FTE chapter and hit up your FTE neighbors for a hand locating a chassis. A road trip for truck parts is a chance for a father and son to bond?
ok so i just found a complete truck that i can get for 1000. its a 3/4 ton long bed that they put an exd cab with a really short step side bed on it but the guy said that it was a regular cab long bed till they swapped out the body and it has a C6 400ci so heres my question: how hard is it to swap a 460 for a 400? transmission and t case are good and i should be able to bolt my 460 up to the C6 thats already on the frame so how hard is it to swap a 460 in place of the 400?
A little engine perch, towers or stands work and some motor mounts..I am sure you can flip sale the top half (front clip, motor, cab and bed) to get some of that $ back. FYI "step side" is a chebby term, we call it a flare side.
