HELP
I've used 3M General Adhesive Remover on vinyl. Get it to lift on one edge and use the remover to disolve the glue on the exposed "edge". It's an UGLY job!
I've also seen painted on "business" lettering removed with EZ Off Oven Cleaner.
It works if:
1) The paint is clearcoat original factory paint.
2) It was done with "sign painters" paint. Ususally identified by barely visible brush strokes with high and low spots.
He said he just sprays it on, it softens the paint and he rubs it off or (and he stresses caution!!) scrapes it off with a plastic "razor blade" available at auto supply stores.
Follow up with a wash and buff and the paint is gone. There may be some fading/non-fading of the base paint but it's going to be better.
