I kind of question that temp map how the cold will get down south with it locked up north. Unless because the el nino won't let the warmer gulf air surge north to warm the southern states I thought the North East was supposed to be a little above normal. I don't mind a couple degree warmer because the cold/warm front boundaries Will be closer inland to have more moisture for more snow and denser snow.

I am by no means a meteorologist but an El Niņo year means Pacific water temps are warmer on the surface thus creating a higher push on the jet stream allowing an unseasonal ply warmer vortex arc over the Midwest and a lower dip towards the Atlantic northeast allowing an artic frontal boundary to slide it's way lower into the southeastern states or so I've heard.

Unless that Arctic front gets closed off I don't see how the upper Midwest could be that much warmer than normal.
