Noticed my right turn signal was squirrelly at night - cleaned the ground at the right rear and all was good (for about two days.) Found now that despite the dash indicator flashing, I had no turn signal or brake light after the headlights had been on a while. So I cleaned up the grounds on both sides in the back, which cured things for another few days. Then when it came back, I thought 'well, the right front is on the same circuit' and checked it - lo and behold, I had a bad bulb in the front. New bulb, and a new flasher just because. Everything worked for another few days... then the same problem came back with a new wrinkle- the dash turn signal indicator glowed dimly all the time after I had turned on the turn signals, even after I turned them off. Come to find out I had an intermittent ground in the right front socket between the ground contact and the actual ground wire, which was causing the right REAR to misbehave. So a new socket - and now everything is good. Plus - my dash lights have always been crap... now that the socket is replaced, my dash lights are very clear and the gauges are actually visible at night. Gotta love grounding issues...
I'm not too sure there are any original parking/ turn/ brake light sockets left on my 77.
One thing I think would be a wise idea is to go through them all redo the connections with solder and heat shrink tubing instead of the way they are now. Probably half are simply twisted and taped.
Yet another thing to check before I get it roadworthy again.
Had Triumph previously, and while I was prepping the body for paint I cleaned all the grounds and plug-ins as I reached them... had some other issues but in 9 years not one electrical problem. Go figure - a reliable Brit car.
So much for all my favorite Lucas electricals jokes.... (sorry, all you young kids, you may have to ask what that means...)
