I have a 2001 Ranger Edge Super Cab auto 4.0L.. I've recently done an engine shampoo and now a few days later it won't start? I've check most/all sensors for water but all seems dry. When I try to start it nothing happens, the dash lights come on and the secrurity light is fine (not blinking rapidly) but no crank... I played with the tranny (park to neutral back to park) and still nothing. I crawled under the truck this morning to jump the starter, and sure enough it started, but now the speedo doesn't work? Once truned off it still won't start with the key. I checked all the fuses and replays (I think) and all is fine.. Please help!!!!!
Sounds like you have a bad connection at the starter. Rattling the thing probably caused a strong enough (temporary) connection which allowed it to crank.
Im not sure if FOrd still puts there soleniods in the engine bay or couples it with the starter. If it's with the starter, that might be the source of the problem as well.
Thanks for the replies, after trouble shooting this problem I realized that if I put a ground on reply number 11 Full Starter relay (under the hood) it starts without problems, but now the speedo still doesn't work....is there some kind of sensor or box that would control both? what could be my problem? where would I find a wiring diagram for this truck? Any and all the help is apreciated
Could be a ground problem, I checked and both the starter relay and instrument cluster use ground 103 which is located just behind the battery junction unde the hood on the fender. Maybe try checking that could have gotten loose.
OK here's the scoop, I've tried just about everything I can think of but still nothing. Now in order to get the truck running, I still have a jumper on the starter relay.. I've checked my ground points and everything seem fine. I've followed the wire (that should return a ground) blue striped orange from the computer but it won't return a ground feedback. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or info on what could be the problem. So Speedo doesn't work and I have a ground jumped to the relay HELP! PLEASE!!!
I'm looking for one that leave the ECU and goes to the fuse box (under the hood) and then to the cluster.. basiclly I need to see where the link is between the starter relay and the cluster, where the might share a ground or where the link is..
The speedometer gets its signal through a gr/bk from the GEM which gets the signal from the vehilce speed sensor. The PCM also gets a signal from here too.
