I'm interested in upgrading the radio in my 2012 SD 6.7. I have the basic no sat, no nav radio. I haven't had an aftermarket radio since my 2001 Crown Vic, and it took a while to work out the electronic whine and such. I'm afraid of dropping 600+ on a radio that will be a repeat of this.

 

I put the Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX that has Apple Play in mine, works great. It was a bit more than $600 though.

Yes I did the install, you'll at least need an adapter harness to go from the stereo to the existing connector. It's been a while since I installed it in mine but I know it was a little more complex than yours because I have the steering wheel controls which meant I had to buy an interface for it, I also wanted Sirius/XM radio which involves the installation of a Satellite radio receiver, plus I installed a back-up camera to it also. You can enter info specific to your vehicle and they can usually tell you everything you'll need to do the install, they have a good help line also if you have any questions.
