Higher Oil Pressure?

Hey Guys, I recently installed a Banks Ram Air Intake on my stock 1999.5 powerstroke and wow did it ever wake up the turbo. A few weeks later i installed a Flo-Pro 5" stainless exhaust from turbo back with no muffler. The truck is running better than it has in years and with 272000 miles, i am pleased with the results. HOWEVER, I have since noticed a little black sticky soot coming out of the tail pipe, a bit of vapor (no oil spitting) from the oil filler tube with the lid off, and now my dip stick tube where it enters the oil pan is leaking. Any ideas on what is going on , or am I now chasing and fixing week points on this truck?

The black sticky sooty stuff coming from the tailpipe could be residue oil left from the actual manufacturing if the tail pipe, it shouldn't be a huge amount and should stop once it's been blown out a while. The oil weeping from the CAC boot could be due to the boot being over saturated from the CCV which blows directly into the intake, are they original boots? If so it could well be time for replacement, I got mine from Riff Raff, they are made from a different material than OEM and should not hold oil like the factory ones do. The fumes coming from the oil fill with the lid removed is normal, this is the CCV vapors that usually get routes into the intake. One quick test to do is to turn the oil fuller cap upside down and place it over the full hole. If it stays put, or vibrates off, then this is a good thing, if it acts like it wants to get blown off the hole it could indicate excessive blow by in the engine. The dipsticks on these are know to leak, there are several threads covering the rr/replacement of the dipstick tube.

Highr Oil Pressure

Rickster, Everything you said makes a lot of sense. The boots are original. I'll replace them. I've been wiping the soot out of the tailpipe. It seems to be slowing down. I adjusted the exhaust yesterday to allow for more clearance. Taking the downpipe lose, I didn't noticed any residue running soot there. I was worried that with the extra boost from the turbo, the extra pressure was showing the week spots. Which may be the case with the boots. Replacing the water pump today. 205 degree long stem thermostat, aluminum thermostat housing and filtered water pump. thanks

At 272k, I am going to vote yes on this. Rikster gave you some good advice above.

Here is a link to CAC replacements.

Complete CAC Intercooler Boot Kit - Ford 7.3L Powerstroke 99-03

Far superior quality to the new OEM Ford replacements and less expensive to boot.

Your old clamps will work if money is tight.

You may want to get the plenum inserts so that you can really tighten the new boots at the plenum neck and not have to worry about crimping the neck.

I forgot about the plenum inserts, highly recommend! The plenum necks on these things appear to be little more than stamped metal, and a common point of boost leaks due to people being scared to or warping them when they tighten the boots. I think I got mine from dieselsite but I know that RR sells them too, relatively cheap but make a world of difference!! You only need 2, one for each plenum.
