Has anyone re-flashed for altitude?

I posted a few days ago on the topic of a 2001 F150, 5.4, 4x4 coming from sea level to +5000 feet. I expect some deficiencies from the altitude, but to be driving at 35mph and have to kick the transmission down a gear to accelerate (o.d. off) is really bugging me. If anyone has had the dealer re-flash your computer using the high altitude principal use program, I would like to hear what it did or didn't do. Or if anyone here is a knowledgable service technician, I would appreciate your input.
Thanks.

Has anyone re-flashed for altitude?

Seeing that I live pretty much at sea level I've never reprogrammed a PCM for high altitude but I sure think if I was you I would take the truck in and get it done. Ford does use a lot of different calibrations and I'm sure they have good reasons for it.

Dave - thanks for the info. The truck is in the shop right now. I'll post the information I get from the service technician after I talk to him.

I was just informed by the service shop that my PCM was re-flashed AND that I need to get rid of the K&N FIPK. I should "put the stock air intake back on" because with the K&N the engine "runs too hot" and that I'd "get better performance" with the stock intake. Thoughts on that anyone?
I'll post my opinion on the re-flash after I get some drive time in.

I was pleasantly surprised when they told me it would be covered under warranty -- 29,000 miles on a 2001. My impression is that the re-flash DID improve the characteristics of what was troubling me. I am going to remove the K&N and see what happens then. One thing for sure is that the truck does run much better in the a.m. when heading off to work (temperature in the mid 70's and engine cool) as opposed to going home in the late afternoon where the temperature is in the 90's. It seems to run a bit muted rather than crisp and responsive in the morning.
BTW the diagnostic showed everything operating and normal.

So what you're saying is that when I leave Texas for Colorado Springs, CO in a couple months that I will need to take it in and get mine re-flashed. There is a difference of 4-5k feet elevation from the two. And the that the warranty should cover it. Right?

Hi David,
I don't want to say absolutely that that is the course of action you should take. I CAN say that your vehicle MAY experience what mine did with the altitude change. You are the one to evaluate whether or not it has an adverse reaction to this altitude. There are other people who come to Colorado from lower altitudes who say they experienced no change. You might be as lucky as they were.

Howdy I usually travel the US to fish Bass Tournaments. I have in my time of travel noticed any need to get it flashed. The truck does well @ sea level aswell as high altitude.
