Looking for a truck for my daughter this era may fit in my budget. I want to try to keep it under 120,000 on the odometer.
I'm not familiar with this generation is there any year or engine, etc. that I should avoid.
You have a 2001 so you will be familiar with 90% of the truck. The newer trucks have a different valve train / cam setup. Some of them have had problems... see the post several below yours on " ticking in the 5.4 motor"..... Also the spark plug setup is different and the original plugs break when removing. Would be good idea to get one with 100K miles that the plugs have been removed and changed. Aftermarket plugs are not a problem .
.......... Due to your location and since its the daughters truck, you might want a 2 wheel drive and 4.6 V8 motor.......... my daughter has that and it runs great at 135K miles.
Kinda familiar, I do know in that gen that the 5.4 is supposed to be better. But don't know what changes occurred in the next generations.
as far as 4x4, with our lifestyle of hunting fishing and horses I'd rather her have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. Her sister has had to use it at college parking a couple times.
