Anyone have any suggestions. The ground on my horm is workingon/off. Put a new wire around the rag joint. When we turn the steering wheel there is intermittemnet contact. So the problem seems to be in the steering shaft/ steering box.
I did read other posts about horns but did not help with this problem.
Any suggestions what to try next?
The horn only works when pushin the horn button- but onlysometimes. It seems to matter where the steering wheel is. As you turn the steering wheel the ground gets interupted. The problem seems to be inthe steering box. Crazy little problem
you will not lose the ground to the steering wheel, it is attatched with 7/16 or 1/2 bolts directly to the cab of the frame. i would look more at your power lead going to the horn button as it may be rubbed through and grounding out the power. does it blow the fuse??
The horn grounds throught the steering shaft and around the rag joint via a wire. Your problem most likely lies inside the steering wheel or shaft. For any kind of steering wheel there must be a rotating contact, either plus or minus.
That contact or the horn switch itself should be to blame.
i had the same problem with our 77 when i changed the rag joint, i just wrapped a little hay wire around the steerin shaft, and hooked a screen door spring to screw on the firewall.... no more problems
