Best headlight bulbs for 2005 Excursion?
Guys, I have Sylvania Silverstars in my 2005 X right now and one is out so I need new bulbs but I wanted to know if there is anything better/brighter out these days. Frankly, I'm not that impressed with the one ones I have but at the time, I was told they were the brightest (legally).
Links are always welcome and I"ll be getting them locally if available at autozone, advancedauto or O Reillys
Also, what's the word on LED replacement bulbs and are they legal?
How are they when used as hi/lo as I've never done that.
Also, what socket do I need for my truck?

This is what he bought. They pull more amps than the factory 55/65 watt bulbs and i was afraid he was gonna melt the 16 ga wire. I made him a harness with 12ga wire and ceramic connectors and 40 amp relays.
I have some silver stars n my 01 but I have the cruddy 99 style lights that are yellow and worthless. I'm switching to 02-04 clear lens style.

Probably not. I know he replaces them here and there. Bulbs that run hot die fast. He's thinking of switching to LED bulbs but I haven't gotten my hands on a set to check them out. Looking at LED bulbs I don't like how the LEDs are positioned.
I would go with Phillips bulbs. I tried Extreme power bulbs and they seem brighter. I never got my light meter out to check so visually they looked brighter. I had good luck with those on all my cars. I tried a set of Silverstars and they seem to work fine. I only had one burn out and I got Silverstar to replace them under warranty. Other than that I usually stay with factory bulbs.
I tried two sets of projectors with halogen and HID kit. On a dodge and F150. Pretty worthless lights bad design. This was back in 2004 or around there. I looked at projector lights but most seem to be cheap in design.
I wish I could put my wife's QX56 headlights in my truck. Those things are bright

At 100 hours there's no point in even messing with them 
I got a set of LED lights for a local guy about a year ago and he loved them but I personally have no experience with them.
Had a chinese reseller offer me some that were rated at 3800 lumens each and although I know they exaggerate the specs (I went with the wattage instead) they seem bright. However, I have no idea how they look at a distance so to speak.
