2003 or 2005 navigator?

So I sold my 2001 expedition and looking to get a navigator. I found two in my price range. First one is a 2003 with 118k miles and the other one is 2005 with 146k. So what do you guys think? Should I go with the 32 valve V8 or the six speed transmission? They are both loaded with 4x4 and everything.

Imo on a ten twelve year old truck 27k is not that big of a deal. What do you guys think?

Which one would you pick?

What is the undercarriage and radiator mount conditions as far as any rust goes? Also the one with 118K might be in need of a dreaded spark plug change.

I'm in Los Angeles. So no rust worries. Trucks around here looks like they just came out of the showroom lol. I changed the plugs on my 2001 expy myself so that's not a problem.

Well, the '05 with the 3v has a habit of breaking plugs if they haven't been changed by the time it reaches 100k+ or even before. It's easy enough to extract them in most cases with the extractor tool from Lisle though, but it depends on your skill level. Personally I would prefer to break a plug and extract it, rather than blowing a plug and having to rethread the hole, like the 2v was prone to, but of course, the '03 Navi had the 4v engine as an option and would be the best choice. No plug issues, similar power to the 3v, but you lose the 6spd transmission of the '05...

I may be mistaken but I believe both have for speed auto transmissions?
My 05 Expedition has a four-speed transmission and honestly wouldn't trade back to an older model for anything, I love it and will overlook the two-piece spark plug problems that I nead to change for the advantages of the newer Expedition.

05 expedition came with four speed transmission but the navigator switched to six speed.

Funny when I had my truck there were tons of expeditions and navigators up for sale in my price / mileage/ condition I want. But now that I'm looking to get one there are almost none. Lol. Everything is either sold or with super high miles or just beat up.
Luckily I have other cars and I'll take my time until I find the ONE.

Yeah, Navigator rrceived the 6spd tranny in 05, the Expys had to wait till 07 and the 3rd gen before they got a 6spd, but not the same 6spd they used in the Navi..

This I did not know, I like the six speed in Dad's 2010 Expedition EL better than my 2005's four speed.

That's good to know. I've heard of multiple failures of the 6 speed in the 07's. If the Navi had the same 6 speed, I'd stay away from it.

The Lincoln used a german ZF 6HP26 transmission. I'd suspect it is pretty reliable, but perhaps more expensive to rebuild once it does give up...

Well...ended up getting a 2004 navigator. It's got normal 11 year truck wear and tear but nothing major. It's got 150k miles but runs great. So much more power than my old 2001. Also engine is clean as a whistle there no oil leaks around the heads and stuff.
Gonna be happy with it for a while.

Lol you must know me. I tend to get bore out of my cars and trucks pretty quick.

There is a humming noise coming from the front right side so I'll be replacing the hub sometimes this week.
